Antioch College Hall and North & South Halls - Yellow Springs, Ohio




















Antioch Hall, North and South Halls are a group of historic buildings on the campus of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, United States. They were the college's three original buildings. Antioch Hall was constructed in the 1852–53 time frame by architect Elbridge Boyden; builder was Alpheus M. Merrifield. It combines elements of Romanesque, Greek Revival and Gothic architectural styles, the latter being most noticeable in its towers. Horace Mann served as Antioch's first president serving from 1853 until his death in 1859.
    Noted nationally renown past students include Rod Serling, Cliff Robertson, Leonard Nimoy, Mia Zapata, Mario Ramberg Capecchi, Stephen Jay Gould, Coretta Scott King, José Manuel Ramos-Horta, Warren Gamaliel Bennis, and numerous U.S, Congressional members.
     Antioch underwent a massive renovation from 1958 to 1962. This included the inset of a concrete structure inside the original building which stabilized it and insulated its interior against weather and degradation. The renovation also created five floors, instead of the previous four, and relocated its entrance from the east side to the west side.
